Know Howell

Derek is a decorated former Maryland State Trooper who spent over ten years with the Maryland State Police before leaving to obtain his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law.  He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, both with honors, from the Johns Hopkins University.  Additionally, he has earned two certificates from Harvard University. 

Derek practices law throughout the State of Maryland. He pulls from his experiences as a former Maryland State Trooper to zealous represent and advocate for his clients. Indeed, that experience provides Derek with insider knowledge on DUI/DWI, serious traffic, CDS and other traffic and criminal matters.

Derek has also served as a college professor. He has been on the faculty at a Maryland University and local community college. Derek has taught Constitutional law as well as other law and criminal justice courses. His teaching experience and “know Howell” assist in the preparation of his cases.
